Hi I’m Mark, and welcome to my travel blog – Global Sight Seekers. Thank’s for visiting!
I’ve long had the travel bug, but with this blog I’ve decided to document my travels. That includes where I’ve been, how I got there, and what I’ve learnt along the way.
If nothing else, I hope my travel blog is interesting and helps to inspire you on your own travel.
My Travel Style
When reading this site, I think it is worth being aware of the way I travel. While we all have our different preferences. any advice I give is based on my own travel style, especially around the main themes here – things to see, what to eat, and places to stay
See
I’m all about seeing the sights. When in a new city, I’ll often hit the main attractions. I generally think if something is a tourist attraction, there is a reason for that, so I will generally have a look. Even then. I like to know what it is I am looking at, how it got there, and what its local significance is.
But of course, there is much more beyond the main tourist sites. I have found that delving into the history and culture of the place helps to understand the way things are. It can help to interact with the locals, you never know where they will point you. These interactions can help bring up places that are worth seeing that you may not otherwise have known about.
Eat
I believe that food is one of the fundamental parts of the life and culture of the place you are visiting. Beyond being based on local ingredients, it can tell a story of the history, traditions, and values of a place. As such, I try out local foods wherever I go.
Usually.
I am usually on holidays though! Sometimes I might feel like something familiar, and if I feel like something from home, then I might find something. Or walking past a place, I see some sort of local take on food from elsewhere (For instance, I’ve seen some interesting localised McDonalds food)
Stay
I am one of those travellers that doesn’t necessarily expect luxury, but I do enjoy some creature comforts. So, while I may splurge and stay in a luxury resort, you probably won’t find me staying in backpacker dorms (been there, done that!).
